OFFICIAL FEES FOR FILING TRADEMARK APPLICATION IN TAIWAN TO BE REVISED ON FEBRUARY 1, 2011

The Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs promulgated on November 10, 2010 that starting from February 1, 2011, when a new trademark application designated for use from International Class 1 to 34, covered more than 20 items in one class, then for each additional item (starting from the 21st item), an extra official fee of NTD 200 (about USD 6.7) will be imposed. On top of the foregoing, said promulgation also included if a new trademark application is filed electronically, a NTD 300 (about USD 10) reduction will apply; and in instances where the designated goods in an electronic filing protects goods which are identical with those reference goods as provided in the TIPO database, then a further reduction NTD 300 in official fee will apply. Finally, for trademark renewals, if renewal application is withdrawn prior to its being approved by TIPO, then a request to refund the official fee of NTD 4000 (USD 133) may be filed.
